Purpose in Practice: Delivering Infrastructure and Giving Back

At Delve Underground, we help build thriving communities by delivering cutting-edge, sustainable heavy civil infrastructure. In this issue of our Segments newsletter, we highlight how that purpose comes to life—both in the field and through our volunteer efforts.

On page 2, we recap several recent volunteer initiatives that reflect our commitment to community well-being. Page 4 features an in-depth look at the award-winning Sumner Tunnel Reconstruction Project in Boston, Massachusetts, which recently received a Gold Engineering Excellence Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts. This project showcases innovative techniques such as the use of precast concrete and rapid smoke testing to address one of MassDOT’s most complex rehabilitation challenges—a success story we are proud of that extends the design life of this critical lifeline infrastructure.

Further into the issue, we explore the engineering complexities of designing outfalls—an essential element of urban drainage and environmental sustainability. Then, on page 12, we share a practical guide to developing effective project construction baseline schedules, including best practices to keep projects on track and mitigate risk. Finally, on page 14, we highlight our work on the US-95 Rockfall Mitigation Project in Riggins, Idaho, where our team used rope access, drone imagery, and 3D modeling to support slope stabilization efforts.

We hope you enjoy this edition of Segments and gain insight into the innovation, expertise, and dedication that drive our work.
