Tunnels and Underground Engineering Practice Lead

Mark Trim is a principal engineer with more than 24 years of experience working as a design engineer and design manager specializing in permanent and temporary underground structures, with an emphasis on tunnel design, sequential excavation method (SEM)/New Austrian tunneling method (NATM), deep excavation support systems, soil-structure interaction, and ground improvement technology. He has comprehensive knowledge of empirical and numerical modeling methods and has designed tunnels using SEM/NATM, tunnel boring machines, stacked drift methods, and cut-and-cover excavation techniques. His expertise also includes underpinning design, installing, and monitoring various geotechnical instrumentation systems and he has an in-depth knowledge of material parameters and test methods of fiber reinforced concrete (shotcrete).

Mark holds an MS in Mining and Earth Systems Engineering and a BS in Civil Engineering from Colorado School of Mines. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer in Australia and a Member of Institute of Engineers Australia. Mark is also a registered Profession Engineer in the states of Texas, New York, and Washington.
